Share the Road

This program was developed by Wayne Wierson to inform drivers about how motorcycles operate, and how motorcycles react differently than other vehicles. The main focus is to remind drivers to always look for motorcycles when driving.

3Rs

This presentation focuses on the dangers of impaired riding. Too many accidents involve alcohol or drugs. We explore some of the ways to determine impairment, and ways to keep impaired riders safe.

Share the Road on two Wheels

Here we discuss things we can do to help other travelers see us on our motorcycles. Make yourself visible is the main point.

Who Controls Your Safety

The focus here is to emphasize the safety factors that WE control. Then we think about ways to deal with the factors we don’t control.

Curves and Intersections

These are the places most accidents occur. We have two separate presentations dealing with one or the other. If needed they can be combined, depending on how much time we have.

What Do You See When You Ride

Interactive program developed by Bruce Downs to help us prioritize our search patterns when we ride. Identifying hazards is the first priority.

Gathering Your States Data

Do you have a relationship with your state’s office of highway safety? Is it a positive relationship or a negative one? Do you have an opportunity to give input to highway safety officials on issues that you think are important?

Some states motorcycle rights organizations are fortunate to have forged a positive relationship with their transportation department and its office of highway safety. For example, they have a voice in how federal safety funds are utilized. They can give input to highway engineers regarding infrastructure concerns. They are appraised on the actions of law enforcement. But maybe most importantly there is an opportunity to analyze and report on the states fatal motorcycle collision reports.

This session will tell you what information those reports have garnered in the state of Idaho and what is being done to try to improve motorcyclist’s safety. You will likely be surprised at the findings. This session will also lend some insight into how you may develop a working relationship with those that hold the keys to these reports in your state.

“Bikesafe: Basic Riding Skills That Will Save Your Life”

“We’ve all seen statistics claiming that the majority of motorcycle crashes are the fault of other drivers, or some sources that claim most crashes are the fault of the motorcyclists themselves. The fact is that whichever statistic is accurate, the large majority of these crashes can be prevented by the motorcyclists themselves, regardless of who would have been “at fault” in a crash. Bikesafe teaches motorcyclists riding techniques that will keep them safe on the road while still keeping riding fun. Bikesafe also explains physiological occurrences that happen to riders and car drivers, and ways to counteract these occurrences, so you can keep the rubber side down.”
